MP Nabam Rebia seeks relaxation of PMGSY-IV norms for Arunachal
Arunachal Pradesh Rajya Sabha MP Nabam Rebia on Wednesday urged the Centre to relax the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)-IV guidelines to improve rural road connectivity in the state. Participating in a discussion on the working of the Ministry of Rural Development in Parliament, Rebia said the present guidelines make only habitations with a population of 250 and above in the North East region eligible for connectivity, due to which only 84 habitations in Arunachal Pradesh currently qualify, leaving many villages unconnected. Highlighting the scattered population pattern of the state, he urged the government to reduce the population eligibility criteria to 100 and above, similar to the relaxation given in Left Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected areas, stating that the move could extend road connectivity to around 200 to 300 villages while also supporting economic sectors such as hydropower, horticulture and agriculture.
