Mark Krawczyk shares his expertise in this video that will help you understand the process, and how to adapt it for your fruit trees and orchards on your property.

Fixing Nitrogen helps support the growth of neighboring trees. It provides bio-mass through chop and drop, and theoretically releases nitrogen as they fix it in association with bacteria that form colonies in nodules on their roots.

Mark uses Siberian Peashrub, Seaberry also know as Sea Buckthorn, and Autumn Olive as a nurse or a mulch crop. They are spaced between six and ten feet apart. When they eclipse the fruit trees, Mark can either cut them down, intentionally coppicing them so they grow from their root systems, or he can pollard the canopy.

He shares a lot of valuable information that you can adapt for your property.

Mark, who has Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Vermont, owns and operates Keyline Vermont LLC. He and his wife also manage Valley Clayplain Forest Farm in New Haven, Vermont.
