In this video we revisit one of the most thrilling ODI matches between India and Sri Lanka played on 15 December 2009 in Rajkot.
India batted first and produced a massive total of 414/7 in 50 overs, powered by a brilliant 146 from Virender Sehwag and a quick 72 from MS Dhoni. At that time it was one of India’s highest ODI totals and it looked like the match was already decided.
But Sri Lanka refused to give up. Tillakaratne Dilshan smashed a magnificent century (160) while Kumar Sangakkara played a stunning knock of 90, bringing Sri Lanka dangerously close to the target.
In the final overs the match turned into a nail-biting thriller where every ball mattered. Despite Sri Lanka’s incredible chase, India held their nerves and managed to win the match by just 3 runs, making it one of the most dramatic ODIs ever played.
This match perfectly shows why cricket is called the game of glorious uncertainties.
