The newly developed Sangaldan railway station has emerged as one of the most unique and strategically important stops on the Jammu-Srinagar rail corridor, as passengers on the direct Vande Bharat Express witnessed the engineering marvel during the inaugural operations.

The train arrived at Sangaldan after passing through Tunnel No. 44, one of the major tunnels on the route. Railway officials said the tunnel stretches nearly 11 kilometres and forms a crucial link in the challenging Himalayan section of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project.

Yard Section Inside Tunnel

A notable feature of Sangaldan station is that part of its yard area lies inside the tunnel itself, highlighting the complex design required to build railway infrastructure in the mountainous terrain of Jammu and Kashmir.

As the Vande Bharat emerged from the tunnel, passengers were greeted by views of the modern station surrounded by steep hillsides and carefully stabilised slopes.

Extensive Landslide Protection Measures

Engineers have undertaken large-scale slope stabilisation work around Sangaldan station to prevent landslides and ensure uninterrupted train operations. Several drainage channels and natural water streams beneath the station area have also been given proper passage to maintain geological stability.

Officials said these measures were necessary because the region is highly sensitive to weather changes and mountain movement.

Two Vande Bharat Trains Seen Together

In a rare and symbolic moment, two Vande Bharat trains were seen standing at Sangaldan station simultaneously—one arriving from Jammu and the other from Srinagar. Railway observers described the scene as a powerful symbol of the new era of rail connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir.

Passengers said reaching Sangaldan was once considered difficult due to limited road access and harsh terrain, but the railway line has now made travel far easier.

Easy Access from Delhi to Sangaldan

With the new rail connectivity, travellers can now journey from Delhi to Jammu and continue onward by Vande Bharat directly to Sangaldan and further into the Kashmir Valley.

Railway officials said the station will play an important role in future operations on the corridor.

More Premium Trains Planned

Sources indicated that premium long-distance trains such as Rajdhani Express and the proposed Vande Bharat Sleeper are expected to operate on the route in the future as infrastructure and services expand.

Sangaldan station is now being seen as a major gift of modern connectivity for Jammu and Kashmir, combining engineering excellence with improved mobility for residents and tourists alike.
