It takes a village. A day at Watoto Children’s village.

Описание: I had the absolute honor of being invited to one of ‪@watoto‬ children villages in Nakirebe in Mpigi district. I walked into this place completely unaware of just how much happens there and I have since felt humbled to have gotten the chance to witness it first hand.


I found that the children here have either been abandoned by their parents, their parents died or their parents could not afford to give them basic life necessities. Some children are rescued hours after birth as some mothers simply run away from hospitals or throw them just about anywhere. Sad!

For the mothers, they are either running away from abusive husbands/families or even they too could not afford to give themselves basic life necessities.

At this point, Watoto works with the authorities to find the mother, or any possible relatives that can care for the child. Most of the time the mother or relatives cannot be found and at times the situation with the relatives of baby isn’t safe for the child.

For every 8children, a mother is attached to them, they are then given a home and every single need is provided, from medical care, a roof to live under , to school fees to clothing and all this is provided for free!

They are also given a chance to choose their life path, either carry on with school or take on some vocational skills which are all provided for at the village or even both.

All this has been made possible because of the generosity of the people, so I hope I can inspire you a little more because you see with just UGX 70,000 you too can be the reason a child has a chance at an education, at food, at clothing but above all a home.
