Bold Meets Vintage | Mixed Media Portrait with Neocolor II & Ephemera

In this clip I'm sharing a moment from one of my portrait lessons where bright, expressive color meets aged vintage papers.

The background begins with layered collage using vintage ephemera, creating a soft, timeworn foundation full of texture and history. Over that quiet surface, the portrait comes to life with bold Neocolor II crayons, white gesso, and black Stabilo All — all water-soluble mediums that allow the layers to blend, move, and interact beautifully.

What I love most about this approach is the juxtaposition of old and new… muted vintage paper paired with vibrant color and expressive mark making.
