Linkou is located in New Taipei City, near the administrative districts of Taoyuan City. The primary deity worshipped here is the "Eighteen-Armed Guanyin Buddha," one of the incarnations of the Buddhist bodhisattva Guanyin. In the sixth year of the Jiaqing reign (1801), this sacred statue was brought to Taiwan as a divine division from Longshan Temple in Anhai, Jinjiang, Fujian. At that time, three statues, known as the Great Mother, Second Mother, and Third Mother, were worshipped by devotees in rotation.
During the Japanese colonial period, the government implemented the "Kominka Movement," which strictly prohibited religious activities in Taiwan and even attempted to burn the sacred statues. However, local believers secretly continued their worship, ultimately safeguarding the statues and preserving their religious heritage.
Later, the Japanese government permitted the construction of a temple with Japanese architectural influences. As a result, a temple was built at its current location and was completed in 1939 (Shōwa 14). The temple was named "Zhulinshan Temple," derived from the names of the main residential areas of its devotees—Luzhu, Linkou, and Guishan.
After multiple renovations, the temple gradually developed into its present form. The temple authorities sent experts to China and Japan to conduct research and sourced high-quality materials, including glazed tiles, Taiwanese cypress, Chinese bluestone, and camphor wood carvings. In 2012, the temple was completely rebuilt, giving it the magnificent appearance it has today.
