Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer. Today we're gonna take a look at the Durabilt safety chain connectors for 5/8" size chains. Has an 18,100 pound working load limit. And as you can see, it is for a quantity of two links. Now these coupling links are gonna consist of two U-shaped metal pieces, which are connected with this pin and this retaining collar, so it allows them to move and rotate freely.
Basically, when you go to install these, what you'll do is start your pin through there, get the holes to line up, and when your pin goes through, you'll take your collar and put that right in the middle here, and you'll have to tap it in with a hammer to where it gets to the middle and then you keep tapping it far enough and it'll lock it in place and it'll allow these to rotate freely just like that. Now, these links are gonna let you attach safety chains to your hitch quickly and easily. They create a more accessible attachment point than the OEM connection loops that are on your hitch. Actually, the new Ford trucks have loops that are too small to accept standard size safety chains. So by attaching these to your OEM loops, that's gonna allow you to attach your safety chains to your vehicle.
Again, the application is for 5/8" thick chain or slip hooks with 5/8" throat opening. And the way you can tell is if you look on here, it is stamped with 5/8 of an inch to let you know. They do also sell these in other sizes. They sell them in a 5/16 size, which has a 4,500 pound working load limit. They sell it in a 3/8" size, which has a 7,100 pound working load limit.
And they also do a 1/2" size, which has a 12,000 pound working load limit. Those items are all sold separately on our website. And as we mentioned, the hammer lock design, that's how it's installed as I showed you. You'll take your pin, drop your retaining collar right in the middle there, run your pin through the holes. When it gets to the center, tap that with a hammer till it goes all the way through and it'll lock it in place.
To remove it, all you have to do is take a hammer with a punch and then punch that pin out so you can remove it. The material on these is a tempered, grade 80 steel construction. As you can see, it's a nice corrosion-resistant, red powder coat finish on it. Again, working load limit, safe working low limit is 18,100 pounds per link. Now also, if you do have any other additional questions regarding this part or any other item that we carry, please feel free to reach out to us so that we can help you get all of your questions answered for you. But that's gonna do it for a look at the Durabilt safety chain connectors for 5/8" size chain.
