Kenya's National AI Strategy Blueprint

Описание: [Transcript]: Kenya is developing a national AI strategy. The technology emerged as transformative in 2023, leading governments worldwide to regulate it and integrate it into public services. The European Parliament passed the EU Artificial Intelligence Act, a legal framework which addresses the risks of AI and aims at fostering trustworthy AI in Europe and beyond.

The act passed in March 13, 2024 will play a role in ensuring that “AI systems respect fundamental rights, safety, and ethical principles and by addressing risks of very powerful and impactful AI models.” In Kenya, the Robotics Society of Kenya (RSK) proposed creating a regulatory body to regulate the use of robotics, AI, and the Internet of Things, but Kenya ranked at number 101, out of 193 countries according to Oxfords Insights, in a 2023 Government AI readiness index.

Kenya's Ministry of ICT and the Digital Economy, with support from Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), is crafting a National AI strategy. Ambassador Philip Thigo, Kenya’s Special Envoy on Technology, emphasizes its aim to regulate AI use inclusively and foster cross-sector collaboration.
