Until a few years ago, the terms Innie and Outie would have meant belly buttons. The Apple TV+ prestige series Severance has changed all that. The writer and producer Dan Erickson created the show which as of February 2025 became Apple TV+'s most watched series, surpassing the previous record holder Ted Lasso.

Severance is a visually stunning and conceptually original series that explores the dark side of work-life balance. It blends corporate satire with psychological suspense as it follows employees at Lumon Industries who undergo a procedure that surgically divides their memories, creating separate identities for work and their personal life, their Innies and Outies. As they begin to question the true purpose of the company, the show unravels a gripping mystery about identity, control and corporate power.

The show is directed by Ben Stiller and three other directors for the second season. Adam Scott plays Mark, Britt Lower plays Helly, Zach Cherry is Dylan, John Turturro is Irving, Christopher Walken is Bert, Patricia Arquette is Harmony Cobel, Dichen Lachman plays Gemma and Tramell Tillman is Mr Milchick.

The complete first and second seasons of “Severance” are now streaming globally on Apple TV+.
