Retirement is great, for about a month. After that, a man needs a hobby. Why not take one up that has a purpose. There are things I never dreamed, in a million years, politcians would pull in the United States. I am watching election year political propaganda and tomfoolery unfold, the likes of which I thought only happened in China or the old Soviet Union. At this point, it would be foolish to put anything past the political class. Let us just say I am nowhere NEAR as confident that depending upon satellite communications is good idea, as I once was.
I have no desire to take up anything that requires permission from the government, so HAM radio is out of the question. Citizens Band, however, is still "Radio Free." Thus, the choice I made. Now I have both a hobby (which I never before had time for) AND a line of communication, in case the next "Reichstag Virus" they bullshit our way is one that blanks out the satellites.
Best case, I am wrong, over prepared but still had fun doing it. Worst case, I had fun doing it and end up being very glad I did.
