According to Catholic tradition, in around 40 AD, Mary Magdalene, together with her brother Lazarus, sister Martha, Maximin, Jacobe, Salome, Sarah the Egyptian servant and Cedonius, the blind man healed by Jesus, were persecuted in Palestine and were placed in a boat without sail or oar to let them perish in the Mediterranean Sea. But instead of dying in the sea, their boat landed in the south of France.
