One request from Y-Not forge was to do a video on the difference between a cold chisel and hot cut chisels. And some info about the hardening and tempering. I just explained what I know about the hardening and tempering and what works for me.
So I forged this chasing or shaping chisel. For actually cutting out forms in steel. I wanted one so I can make collars out of some 12mm flat stock when modifying my hardy tools for this new anvil.
As you'll see it worked out quite good, started off with some 20mm spring steel, made it octagon, put a dent it in up near the top a Mark Aspery technique which I quite like.
Then I show the finished chisel and how it performed, went pretty good, bit too wide so after this video I got on the belt sander and narrowed it down a bit more. Re-tempered it and yeah working pretty good now.
