This is a beautiful ghazal that describes with elegant imagery how an Evening of Sadness is transformed by the presence of Someone You Love. The lyrics of “Sham-e-Gham/Noor-Afshaan" are written by Rajendra [Raj] Khare. The soulful voice belongs to "numero uno" in ghazal singing Pooja Gaitonde who is classically trained - both in the ghazal style and Urdu diction. The music is composed by Athar Hussain of Delhi who is a musician of great potential and comes from a classical tradition of musicians. This video is produced by Rajendra [Raj] Khare.

नूर-अफ़्शाँ नुमायाँ हो गयी
A sad evening – when she arrived -
Her beauty illuminated it

राहे-मंजिल नीम-निगाही पे
दास्ताँ-ए-गमे-दिल हो गयी
My destiny - lost in her eyes
Became the tragedy of life

उसकी जुल्फों की छाँव में
शामे-ग़म शबे-माह हो गयी
In the shade of her hair
Evening of sadness transformed –
In a moonlit night
[4].
नैरंगिये-हुस्न के तिलिस्म में
आह दिल में दफ़न हो गयी
In the mysteries of material beauty
A sigh of sorrow –
buried in heart
[5].
बुझे शबे-हिज्रे-चिराग़“राज”
नूरे-शम्अ नूरे-सहर हो गयी.
Raj, nights of separation ended-
Light of lamps transcended to –
the yearnings of dawn.
