Sections 30 to 34 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS) deal with the powers of police officers, duty of citizens to assist authorities, and mandatory reporting of certain offences.
Section 30 grants superior police officers the same powers as the officer-in-charge of a police station within their jurisdiction.
Section 31 imposes a duty on every person to assist Magistrates or police officers in arrest, preventing escape, breach of peace, or protection of public property.
Section 32 allows a person to aid execution of a warrant when directed by a police officer.
Section 33 makes it mandatory to inform police or Magistrate about the commission or intention of certain serious offences under BNS, failing which liability may arise.
Section 34 casts a special duty on village officers and residents to report crimes, suspicious activities, deaths, offenders, or threats to public order.
📌 Highly important for Judiciary, PCS-J, APO, and Police exams
📌 Frequently tested in prelims + mains
📌 Static + conceptual section – easy scoring if revised well
