About Obesere:
Abass Akande Obesere, popularly known as Obesere, is a legendary Nigerian Fuji musician born on January 28, 1965, in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. Raised in Lagos in a family of gifted musicians, Obesere naturally inherited a deep passion for music and performance from an early age.

Before fully committing to music, Obesere explored several professions including boxing, printing, and electronics. However, at the age of 17, he dedicated himself entirely to music and began building what would become one of the most influential careers in Nigerian Fuji music history.

A bold and unconventional artist, Obesere quickly gained attention for his fearless lyrical style. His music openly addressed social realities and taboo subjects within Yoruba society, earning him both controversy and massive popularity. His unique and androgynous stage persona further distinguished him from his peers and caught the attention of Sony Records, leading to a major recording deal.

Obesere went on to create his own musical identity known as Fuji Pop — a powerful fusion of traditional Fuji music with hip hop and contemporary African sounds. His innovative sound is perfectly represented in his acclaimed album “Hip Hop Mafia,” which blends multiple genres into a cohesive and modern African soundscape.

With a career spanning over four decades, Obesere remains one of the most influential figures in African music. His electrifying live performances have attracted thousands of fans worldwide, making him a global ambassador of Fuji music.
