Driven by passionate tastemakers like Norman Jay, Des Parks, Gilles Peterson, and Roy The Roach, the movement fused American funk, jazz, and soul with London’s vibrant club culture. Iconic spots, sound systems, and stations like Good Times and Kiss 94 FM helped elevate these hidden gems into an essential part of the UK’s musical identity.
Rare Groove was—and still is—about discovery, passion, and giving timeless, soulful tracks a second life on the dance floor.

Born and raised in the UK, DJ Dodge cut his teeth in some of London’s most iconic clubs throughout the ’90s and 2000s — The Wag, Fresh ’n’ Funky, Iceni, & Rotation — leaving his mark on every dance floor he touched. He later became the official MTV Lick DJ, taking his signature soulful style across Europe and introducing crowds to a deeper, richer groove.
