2 Corinthians 3:6-18
Paul references the ministry received through God's mercy (2 Corinthians 4:1), writing to the Corinthian church amid corrections and encouragement after issues in 1 Corinthians. Ministry (diakonia) means service as a servant, a calling from God making believers adequate through Christ.
In 2 Corinthians 3:6, Christ makes us servants of the new covenant—not of the letter (Old Testament law) that kills, but of the spirit that gives life. The law cannot save; it reveals sin but brings death. Judaizers erred by adding works like circumcision or Passover, stealing from Christ's glory. Salvation is by Christ's work alone; rituals like communion or baptism point to Him, not earn favor.
The old ministry (law engraved on stones) was death but came with glory—Moses' face shone after Mount Sinai (Exodus 34), terrifying Israel so he veiled it. Yet it faded and condemned sinners, showing need for a savior (Romans: law as tutor).
The new ministry of the spirit surpasses in glory (3:8-9), bringing life, forgiveness, righteousness. Law condemns by revealing debt; gospel pays it through Christ. Law's glory fades; gospel's abounds eternally (3:10-11).
With this hope of full forgiveness, use boldness in speech (3:12)—not like Moses veiling fading glory. Minds/ hearts hardened, veil remains when reading old covenant, unlifted except in Christ (3:14-15). Veil over Israel persists, but removed when turning to the Lord (3:16).
Gospel is primary message: power for salvation, lifting veil. Share it boldly—deal with sin, proclaim Christ's death/resurrection for forgiveness by faith. Law shows need; gospel provides solution. This ministry glorifies God more than Moses', entrusting us to serve Him and lost souls.
