Der Stadtteil Düsternbrook in Kiel gehört zu den traditionsreichsten und zugleich repräsentativsten Gegenden der Stadt. Direkt am Westufer der Kieler Förde gelegen, bietet er eine Kombination aus Villenviertel, Natur und maritimem Flair. Düsternbrook entstand im 19. Jahrhundert als bevorzugte Wohnlage für wohlhabende Bürger, Offiziere und Kaufleute, was sich bis heute in den prächtigen Gründerzeit- und Jugendstilvillen entlang der Kiellinie widerspiegelt. Diese Uferpromenade ist das Herzstück des Stadtteils: Hier liegen der Landtag Schleswig-Holsteins im ehemaligen Marineoffizierskasino, das berühmte Hotel Kieler Yacht-Club und verschiedene Segelvereine, die während der Kieler Woche eine zentrale Rolle spielen. Die Kiellinie lädt mit Cafés, Grünflächen und dem Seebadeanstalt-Denkmal zum Flanieren ein und bietet einen direkten Blick auf den Fähr- und Schiffsverkehr der Förde.
