Mantovani with an orchestral version of a song that was a hit for Engelbert Humperdink in 1969. Engelbert’s version reached #7 in the UK and #16 in the US.
Born in Venice, Italy, Mantovani moved with his family to England in 1912. He began issuing recordings in 1949 and continued until the mid 70s. During that time, he placed nearly 50 albums on the US album chart, many in the Top-20, including the #1 charting “Film Encores” in 1957. The “To Lovers Everywhere” reached #150 in 1971.
Les Reed and Barry Mason wrote an incredible number of songs in the 60s and 70s. The Fortunes’ “Here It Comes Again” and Engelbert’s “The Last Waltz” were but two of these.
