500 foot Low Cloud Flight

After months of wet and windy weather, we finally had a few dry days to dry out the grass airfield and light winds to take our lightweight flexwing planes up. unfortunately for us, there was a small patch of low cloud right over the airfield!!! On the way to the airfield, we were driving in full sunshine just 4-miles up the road!!
After drinking coffee for an hour in the club house, looking at the Met Office radar maps online, we could see the edge of the cloud was close by, just 4-miles away. We decided to get off the ground to see how low the cloud base was.
If we could get up to 500 feet to pass legally over roads and houses in non-built up areas and still had 1500 meters of visibility, we would fly over the fields and hope to find the edge of the low cloud.
This footage is of my attempt. Well as you can see, the cloud base was just over 500 feet with just enough visibility, but no edge of the low cloud. You must not fly below 1000 feet over built up areas, so when I got up the the outskirts of Spalding, I had no option but to turn back. Oh well. Nice to get airborne again. Roll on better weather.
