Abstract:
The sensing behavior of as-synthesized and annealed WS2 nanosheets towards Ammonia has been demonstrated in this study. These were prepared by liquid exfoliation process to develop a highly sensitive and selective ammonia sensor. They were then annealed at 400oC in N2 ambient for two hours to enhance the response and stability of the sensor. It was found that the sensor is highly sensitive towards NH3 (response ~ 1805% at 3 ppm; response time ~ 125 s and recovery time ~ 59 s) with good specificity over other gases present in breath. The lowest limit of detection (50 ppb) for NH3 acheived using WS2 has been reported for the first time in this work. Hence the sensor prototyped here is a probable candidate for use in diagnosis of NH3 related diseases.
