Today, I am going to Tanjong Pagar visiting the nearby areas using the East-West MRT line to Tanjong Pagar station.

It’s been quite some time since last I came here and many new Towers and Buildings have risen near the MRT station.

Fortunately, it adds to the charm instead of destroying it.

Tanjong Pagar is a historic district located within the Central Business District of Singapore.

This district is a popular tourist destination.

The area of what Tanjong Pagar is now, was said to be initially a fishing village called Salinter.

From the 1600s, Tanjong Pagar was an enclave for the thousands of Chinese and Indian dock workers who had migrated to Singapore from the mid-19th century.

The name comes from the Malay language, in which it means "cape of stakes".

This is probably from the stakes used my fishermen to secure fish traps, as the village's main economic activity was fishing.

Today, the district is a mix of old and new buildings.

Notable landmarks in Tanjong Pagar also include the Thian Hock Keng Temple, which was gazetted as a national monument in 1973.

It is one of the oldest temples in Singapore and was built in the early 19th century.

Tanjong Pagar is also known for its local street art.

Prominent street art murals are often found on the sides of various shophouses and buildings within the district.

Tanjong Pagar also contains both the tallest public housing building, the Pinnacle@Duxton, and the tallest building outright, the Guoco Tower, in the country.
