Bookstore Shenanigans: Ur Welcome

Описание: Hello everyone! This is DeNice over here at The Printed Word Bookstore in Portsmouth, VA and
today I wanted to show you a little bit of the Behind the Scenes of working at a local bookstore.

Since I came on board here at The Printed Word we’ve been able to be open during the day on
Tuesdays and Thursdays. Thus far a lot of that time I am left to my own devices. One thing
about me is that I always like to be doing something so I often try to find some project to do while I’m here.

On this particular Thursday I was feeling a little cheeky with our signage. Normally we have a
yellow sign in front of the store with something written on it. It could be for a sale we’re having or
an event we’re hosting or just general book love, but we usually have something for folks
passing by to read. We didn’t change out the sign from our last book launch (shout out to Dr.
Oney Hall-Graham for the super successful launch of ‘Living Courageously on The Battlefield of Life!) and I’m honestly not sure where the other letters are so I decided to make some
lemonade out of these lemons and come up with something using the letters that were already
there.

Now the shenanigans ensue with my choice of a message. I could have stopped at ‘Read’. I
could have stopped at ‘Read A Book’. But I noticed the last word was ‘Welcome’ and although I couldn’t find what I needed to put ‘You’re’, I happen to be a millennial who would shorten words all the time via text back in the day.

Thus, the final message became, ‘Read a Book * Ur welcome’.

I thought it was cute and funny and I truly believe if they took it seriously they would thank us.
However, as a driving passerby what would you think about this sign? Is it rude? Is it comedic?
Does it make you actually want to read a book today? It doesn’t even have to be one of ours, it
just needs to be written literature!
