Investigators have concluded that Air India crash was not caused by technical defect but was the result of an 'intentional act', Italian daily Corrier della Sera reported. A total of 260 people were killed in the crash, one of the worst aviation disasters in decades. However, Italian newspaper's account is based on unnamed sources and preliminary interpretations. Directorate General of Civil Aviation has yet to release its final report. As per the report, the crash after fuel cut-off to engine was not triggered by mechanical failure but by deliberate action, and officials are now preparing to draft their final report. US experts assisting in the probe have described the findings as 'a breakthrough'. Preliminary AAIB report said the plane's fuel control switches were moved from 'run' to 'cut-off' position. AAIB report also mentions cockpit exchange where one of the pilots is heard asking the other why he cut off the fuel. The other pilot responded that he did not do so. The govt has so far desisted from directly blaming the pilots for the tragedy.
