Walks In Wales You NEED To Explore - Porthcawl To Merthyr Mawr

Описание: Where to walk in Wales? What are the hidden walks and hikes which are only really done by locals? One you must try is the Newton, Porthcawl to Candleston Castle, Merthyr Mawr circular walk.
An interesting walk through history along the South Wales coast.

From Porthcawl’s Newton Village and its church, we walk to the old rifle range on Newton Burrows, over to Candleston Castle then to the River Ogmore which we follow to the beach. From the beach, it’s a walk along the Wales Coastal Path back to Newton.

The total distance of the walk is about 6 miles. If you want to extend the walk head to Merthyr Mawr village and cross the stepping stones to Ogmore Castle.

Highlights of the trip include Newton Church, exploring the old target area and bunker from the rifle range and Candleston Castle. In researching the walk we found out that General Eisenhower visited the South Wales area to inspect the American troops on 1st, April 1944.

Most of the time, the route is relatively quiet and you won’t meet many people. Even during the holidays and at the weekend.
