In 2012, experts and law enforcers were describing Australia's unstoppable alcohol problem as an "epidemic". The devastation of this was most evident in the national road toll, where young drivers would get behind the wheel of their car and drive while blind drunk. Gaol, stiff fines, the constant scare campaigns - nothing, it seemed, could stop this stupidity. The result was carnage. A rising toll of young people killed and seriously injured. And behind the appalling statistics were shattered families.
