5. SOT JASPER CONRAN on criticism in press of london fashion week - "I think I have been hearing people say that for the last 15 years, we are brilliant at knocking ourselves down in this country. You can rely on them to say something vitriolic about our industry every 6 months. It's absolutely nonsense, it's terrific and it's happening."

7. SOT JASPER CONRAN on not letting himself get last minute nerves - "I have trained myself to be calm, you have to train. It's a harrowing process, a model may not turn up or a hairdresser may not turn up. Or a girl could trip on the catwalk. All these things might happen, but what am I going to do about it. I've trained myself to be calm now."

CONRAN GETS COLOURFUL
Black may be back, but that didn't stop JASPER CONRAN presenting an Autumn-Winter 2002 collection full of vibrant colours for London Fashion Week, Monday (18 February 2002).
The designer, considered one of Britain's top modern classicists is known for clean lines, subtle tailoring and quality fabrics like leather and cashmere.
This time, Conran says he has stretched himself outside his usual boundaries.
"I've thrown the crayons out of my pram. There's a lot of knitwear, suede that I haven't done a lot of before , less hard tailoring than usual and more day wear pieces."
He filled the catwalk with orange, yellow, turquoise, green and purple.
Some outfits put bold contrasting shades next to each other with bright sweaters, skirts, belts and fur collars.
Others stuck to one main colour, with a simple swirl of stitching bringing in other shades.
A-line mid-calf skirts came in fine wool and suede, with contrasting stitching along the gore seams or across the body and seat of the skirt. Skirts were worn with round-neck body-hugging jackets that finished just on or below the waist.
Meanwhile evening-wear was typically sexy without being too revealing.
Long, lean trousers in black were given a lift by fitted silk shirts, slashed to the waist in deep turquoise or in black silk with sheer, chiffon puffed sleeves.
Unlike the vast majority of catwalk collections, Conran's range caters for women of all shapes, sizes and ages.
The designer took the opportunity to reject claims in the British press that this season's London Fashion Week is not as good as in previous years.
"I think I have been hearing people say that for the last 15 years, we are brilliant at knocking ourselves down in this country. You can rely on them to say something vitriolic about our industry every 6 months. It's absolutely nonsense, it's terrific and it's happening."
The designer says he's trained himself not to fall prey to last minute nerves, and with early critics responses calling the latest pieces 'impressive' and 'gorgeous', it looks like his confidence is justified.
