There’s nothing quite like a Sunday at Ravivari Bazaar in Ahmedabad—a place where chaos and charm collide, though not always in the way you’d expect. The adventure kicked off with me narrowly avoiding a cricket ball. Turns out, the bazaar doubles as a makeshift cricket ground.
I was hoping for some classic bazaar wildlife and I got goats, maybe a lazy dog or two, chickens, sheep, budgees, and many others. Not a single cow in sight, which, for India, felt like a betrayal. Instead, I saw an army of pigeons plotting world domination from the power lines.
The stalls were stacked with everything you can think of—and a lot you can’t. Old sewing machines, car parts, second-hand clothes, and a weirdly large collection of clocks. I didn’t buy anything, though, because nothing screamed, “Take me home!” Except maybe a goat, but I resisted.
Food was my last hope. I grabbed a bread pakora, expecting a crispy, spicy masterpiece, but it was more like soggy bread sadness. The dal vada was decent, though—crispy and salty enough to restore a bit of my faith.
As I left empty-handed (and mildly disappointed in my snack choices), I realized Ravivari isn’t about finding treasures—it’s about soaking in the chaos. Just don’t come expecting cows or gourmet pakoras.
