Sensory processing difficulties occur when the brain has trouble receiving, interpreting, and responding to information from the senses (sight, sound, touch, taste, smell, movement, and body position). Instead of organizing this input smoothly, the brain may over‑react, under‑react, or struggle to integrate sensations.
This can lead to challenges such as:
• Daily activities: difficulty with dressing, eating, or routines.
• Emotional regulation: increase anxiety, frustration, or difficulty calming down.
• Social interaction: trouble engaging with peers or adapting to group settings.
• Motor development: clumsiness, poor coordination, or delayed skill acquisition.
While these difficulties vary in severity, targeted occupational therapy and sensory integration strategies can help individuals build coping skills, improve participation, and enhance overall quality of life.
To provide us with more information on this particular topic affecting more and more people, especially children on the Autism Spectrum we have the privilege to have Ms Kevina Soobramanien an Occupational Therapist & A Sensory Integration Practicioner (AOTA) with more than 15 years of experience in this field. Ms Kevina is also Certified in Emotion Zones of Regulation.
