The Hard Way - Eighty Ninety
From ‘Poetry Found In The Familiar’

Poetry Found In The Familiar is a project I began with the intention of shedding light on my own emotions. Emotions are something I am seldom open about, even with myself. When I was younger, I used songwriting as a way to express myself and as a way to process my own emotions. As I grew up, I found songwriting became more and more difficult. Juggling work, a relationship, family and friends, I grew increasingly out of time to sit and write. Perhaps the part that made me the saddest was that, even when I did find the time, I never knew what to write.

As events unfolded in my life and I still struggled with this writer’s block, I turned to music that I knew, by artists that I listened to, and found relation in them. It helped me process at least a little bit of what I was going through at the time. This year, I decided to finally try and force myself out of that hole that I had dug myself into by creating this. An album that is not mine, but an album that is me. I’ve chosen the 8 songs and ordered them particularly to tell the story of what I’ve gone through in the last 3 years of my life.

Since I couldn’t find the words, I’m grateful to these 8 artists to have given me something to rely on and something to believe in. For getting me through the darkest parts of life that a few years ago I never thought I would go to. This passion project is the first thing in a long time that I’ve been able to pour my heart and soul into, without consequence. The familiarity of these songs and the way I felt the lyrics related to me is not something I am alone in feeling. We all have songs like this.

I hope you all enjoy this little passion project of mine. And if you’ve actually read all this… thank you for being here, one day at a time xoxo
