One of the functions of width tool is using it to thicken particular segments of strokes to give it a calligraphic look. It works well for logo designing and custom typography as well.
The width tool can also be used to create flowing curves.
On the other hand, with a pencil tool, you'll be able to create and transform anchor points of curves and paths including that you can easily continue the stroke of custom made brush in Arabic Calligraphy Logo Design
