Our final full day in Patagonia. We ended it with a bang, hiking the Laguna Cerro Castillo trail in the Cerro Castillo National Park. It is 8 miles round trip with a massive 3,704ft in elevation gain. It will take you up the parks namesake mountain, to a glacial lake and you'll get an up close look at a glacier. On the way up, you'll pass through a couple of privately owned ranches in which cows roam freely and will voice their displeasure at your presence. We took our time at the top, really took in the magnificent view, and had an enjoyable hike down our last trek in Patagonia. It is bittersweet leaving this awe inspiring place, close to the end of the world. It's a destination that definitely lives up to the hype. Around every corner there's a new sight, new landscape to be seen. There's every sort of outdoor adventure you can think of. Hiking, camping, multi-day treks, whitewater rafting, kayaking. The Carretera Austral is one of the best road trips in the world, no doubt about it. And it's far less crowded then Torres Del Paine National Park farther south, the park people think of when they think of Patagonia. It far more than that. It's a place you can have the adventure of your life and a lot of people we met this was there 3rd, 4th, or 5th time in Patagonia. Some make it an every year trip. I can see why it can be addicting. It's also a place to escape from the hustle and bustle and get some solitude because you are a long way from civilization. We had a lot of fun, but Chris and I are both looking forward to returning home in a couple of days.
