BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS & NEVIS — U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Iran is attempting to develop intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs), warning that Tehran is on a “pathway” toward weapons that could eventually reach the continental United States.
Speaking to reporters after attending a CARICOM conference, Rubio described Iran as a “grave threat,” citing its growing ballistic missile arsenal and alleged efforts to rebuild elements of its nuclear program.
Rubio said upcoming talks would focus primarily on Iran’s nuclear activities but stressed that Iran’s refusal to discuss its missile program remains a major obstacle to broader diplomatic progress.
His remarks come after President Donald Trump reiterated that he prefers diplomacy but warned of serious consequences if no agreement is reached.
