The Dell PowerEdge R440 server operates on DDR4 memory. There are a total of 16 DIMM slots. Now onto memory channels. The white slots are the start of a memory channel while the black slots are the end of the channel. The R440 is unique in the fact it has 10 DIMM slots and 2 memory channels on CPU 1, whereas CPU 2 has only 6 DIMM slots and only one memory channel. Module speed options include 2133MT/s, 2400MT/s, and 2666MT/s, 2933MT/s. The CPU that you have installed will determine that fastest speed that your modules will run at. The fastest speed for 1st Generation Scalable CPUs is 2666MT/s. The fastest speed 2nd Generation Scalable CPUs is 2933MT/s. 3200MT/s modules can be installed, but will clock down to the fastest supported speed of the CPU. Module capacity options include: 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, 128GB. 128GB can only be used with Load Reduced memory. The R440 accepts two types of RAM: ECC Registered (RDIMM), and Load Reduced (LRDIMM). With RDIMMs, you can achieve 1TB with a configuration of 16x64GB. With LRDIMMs, you can reach 2TB with 16x128GB.
