Описание: A single image could take up to eight hours to create. In the 19th century, cameras were very simple and insensitive to light. To produce a single photograph, the lens had to be left open for a very long time so that the light could "stick" to the chemically coated metal or glass plate. Because of the lengthy process, the person being photographed had to sit still for hours. The slightest movement would result in a blurry or even a failed photograph. That's why faces in early photographs appear stiff, serious, even frightening—not because they were fierce, but because they were not allowed to move at all. Behind a seemingly simple black-and-white photograph lies a struggle of time, patience, and very primitive technology. These photographs are a testament to the value of a single image in the past, long before the cameras in our pockets could capture images in a fraction of a second.
