Ethiopia (part 5): Exploring Erta Ale, the most active volcano of Ethiopia

Описание: Join me on an unforgettable journey to Erta Ale, Ethiopia's most active volcano, situated in the Afar region. Our adventure begins with a flight to Samara, where we enjoy breakfast before embarking on a road trip filled with the unique sights of Afari life.

Along the way, I share stunning views of the Afar region’s landscape, from traditional nomadic houses to semi-modern tin homes, and caravans of camels carrying salt—remnants of an ancient trade. We stop by local salt mines, farmlands, and a beautiful lake, experiencing the rich culture and raw beauty of the Afar region.

After a hearty lunch in a local restaurant with bamboo and animal-skin seating, we continue our journey, passing volcanic rock fields before starting our night hike up Mount Ale. At the summit, we witness the spectacular sight of the volcano at night, with fire blazing against the dark sky. We even examine the crystallized formations left by recent lava flows.

Under a full moon, we rest in traditional Afari huts, surrounded by the surreal beauty of the desert. At dawn, we return to the volcano to watch the sunrise—a moment that feels like stepping onto another planet. The landscape resembles Mars, with smoky vents and mesmerizing lava patterns below.
