The Dolakha Bhimsen Temple, located 4.5 km east of Charikot in Dolakha, Nepal, is an ancient, roofless shrine dedicated to Bhimsen, the Pandava brother revered for strength and commerce. The triangular stone idol manifests three divine forms—Bhimsen, Mahadeva, and Narayana—and is famous for “sweating,” believed to portend national crises.
Key Aspects of Dolakha Bhimsen Temple:
Location: Situated in Bhimeshwar municipality, Dolakha Bazar, approximately 133 km from Kathmandu.
The Idol: A triangular stone idol, often referred to as a lingam entwined with gilded snakes, is housed in a roofless structure. It is considered to embody Bhimsen in the morning, Mahadeva during the day, and Narayana in the evening.
The "Sweating" Phenomenon: A unique, widely believed phenomenon where the idol sweats (produces warm droplets). It is believed to forewarn national calamities, such as earthquakes, political upheavals, or disasters in Nepal.
Significance: Revered by the Newar community and traders, the temple is a major center for pilgrimage, particularly during Bhima Ekadashi, Sankranti, and Dashain.
Legend: The temple is said to have originated when 12 porters discovered the stone, which bled milk and blood when struck, as they were cooking.
The temple is often visited alongside nearby sites like Kalinchowk and Tripurasundari. It is considered a deeply sacred site with a history spanning over a thousand years.
