Block Mori is one of the remotest block of Uttarakhand. There are still many villages which have no road connectivity. Most of these villages used to be independent and grow everything they needed. They are traditionally shepherds and also used to keep cows and there was no need to buy milk or ghee from outside world. They infact used to manufacture their own warm cloth made from the wool obtained from the sheeps. There were tools available with which the hairs of sheeps used to be turned into the cotton and then the elders of the family and even the youngers too used to spin this wool using the Takli. After this the thread used to be given to the weavers who used his skills to weave the warm cloth using the hand weaving teachniques. These machines and tools too used to be indigineous made using the locally found material. At times travelers call them the backward village but when you will notice the ancient wooden houses that too earth quake proof which are still standing and in use for hundreds of years then you realise the skills and knowledge these people had. There are several ancient temples still found which are age old and made by these skilled people whom we now term backwards. Although they may be away from the modern amenities like road, electricity, hospital, english medium schools, internet, mobile network and the market but they should never be referred as the backwards. These are the people who have preserved the ancient knowledg, custom and traditions, local folk dances, festivals and the traditional attire to this day which the so called moderns have lost. These villages might be away from the modernity but in their outlook and several ways of life they are way ahead from the so called modern world. Women here enjoy the equal rights although they work hard but they are still free to choose their groom and also to leave him at any time. There is no dowry system here and most importantly its not the parents of girls who look for the suitable boy for marriage but the parents of boys do come to the girls family and ask for marriage. There is another wonderful tradition in which the girl take the barat to the home of boy. They are still working hard and staying in these remote villages for centuries sustaining themselves againat the forces of nature and still preserved this rich culture and tradition.
