The National Education Policy was framed in 1986 and modified in 1992. More than three decades have passed since previous Policy. During this period significant changes have taken place in our country, society economy, and the world at large.

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday (29th July, 2020) approved the New Education Policy and renamed the ministry of human resource and development as the ministry of education. The new policy would also see an overhaul of the system in place in higher education.

Some important changes under the New National Education Policy are:
1. Higher Education Commission of India to be setup
2. National Mission for Mentoring to be setup
3. Digital Academic Bank of credits to be setup
4. Multiple Entry & Exit points with appropriate certification
5. Change the school structure to 5+3+3+4
6. Mother tongue / Regional Language till Grade 5
7. Vocational Education & Coding from Class 6th
8. PARAKH (Performance Assessment, Review and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development) to be setup as standard setting body.
