The Dakshina Kannada Fisheries Department expects around 70–100 boats to begin fishing on the first day, while nearly 400 deep-sea trawling boats are reportedly ready. However, rough sea conditions, strong winds and high waves may affect fishing operations. Purse seine fishing is expected to begin from August 7 after the traditional sea worship, subject to weather conditions. Preparations have also begun at Malpe harbour, including cleaning and the gradual return of boats to the sea.
