The ruling and opposition parties split along party lines in their reactions to the announcement from the presidential office, with Pro-park faction of Saenuri in favor and the opposition taking a more critical position.
Park Ji-won outlines lawmakers' response and their possible next move.
The ruling Saenuri Party welcomed the appointments,... saying the party expects the officials' experience and insight will help the country get through this difficult time.
The party also urged the opposition bloc to drop its vow to boycott the confirmation hearing for prime minister nominee Kim Byong-joon... and accept all of the nominations.
"We ask for the opposition parties' understanding for the lack of prior consultation before the nominations were made. But the nominees are well qualified, so I would beseech the parties to help us form a coalition cabinet."
But the main opposition Democratic Party of Korea said the Presidential Office hasn't changed in its lack of communication with the parliament and the opposition bloc.
The party also said that the president should be investigated as part of the probe into her confidante Choi Soon-sil,... saying they cannot accept nominations made by the president,... whose approval rating has dropped down to about 10 percent.
"In issuing the cabinet nominations on Wednesday and Thursday, the Presidential Office and the president have added fuel to the public's anger and anxiety."
The minor opposition People's Party said the top office is just trying to change the subject,... when it should be listening to the angry voices of the public.
"The public is furious about the president's appointments that seek to divert attention. The president, who should be subject to investigation, is only thinking about shielding herself by changing subjects."
Meanwhile, the internal conflict within the ruling Saenuri Party between the party leadership and the non-pro-President Park faction... is escalating.
The latter group of lawmakers is urging party leaders to resign... and repeating its call for the president to be investigated if necessary.
The ruling party plans to hold a general meeting of its lawmakers on Friday... to discuss the matter further.
"The Democratic Party of Korea also plans to hold another general meeting of all its lawmakers on Friday,... to decide whether to accept the prime minister nominee... and whether to seek impeachment for the president or press her to resign.
Park Ji-won, Arirang News."
