I spent the night ice camping in brutal winter conditions as temperatures dropped to -20°F. The tent held strong, the heater worked overtime, and by morning it was time to see if it was all worth it.
We headed out perch fishing and found exactly what we were hoping for — giant yellow perch under the ice. Thick, golden fish that made the cold completely worth it.
And then… a surprise.
Out of nowhere, a big black crappie came through the hole — not something you expect in these conditions.
This trip had:
• Ice camping in sub-zero temps

There’s something about earning fish like this after sleeping on the ice in extreme cold. No shortcuts. Just winter, patience, and payoff.
