A few months ago, a statue of a Black woman was erected in Times Square. The statue received a lot of backlash--not just from racist people decrying DEI or "woke" but from Black women who felt that the statue was degrading to Black women everywhere. The language used in this discourse heavily depends upon classism, fatphobia, and anti-blackness. I attempt to unpack it in this video. ♡
