Z3 project / Summer 2019

Описание: This video is about my Z3 project. We bought it from the original owner with 36k miles on it in June 2019. It was in great shape mechanically but was left outside for many years under a walnut tree. The hood, which I still have, was replaced with a new one due to the dozen or so walnut dings. We wanted the hood lines to be flawless. The car was also keyed on both sides of the car.

Regarding the interior, the cowl drain holes got clogged with leaves and allowed some water into the vehicle through the vents, under the dash. So the interior carpet had to be replaced. We scrubbed the entire vehicle down, floorboards and every interior piece one by one, disassembling the entire car. Sensors subject to moisture were replaced (Side impact Airbag sensors on driver and passenger floorboards).

All maintenance and wearable parts were replaced and every single trim and weather strip piece was purchased new, as was the carpet. All OEM new.

The car then received a full paint job in San Marino blue metallic, the color code from a 2020 BMW M4 CS. Doors, interior sills, trunk were stripped and cut-in but the engine compartment will be a project for this winter with a full engine removal, engine bay and engine clean up.

Finally the car was buffed and full ceramic coated. This part of the project was finished by the end of Aug 19. We enjoyed the car for just a couple months last summer 2019 until it was parked for winter, and we have thoroughly enjoyed this spring summer 2020. Thanks to my wife that puts up with my car habits, even to the extent of helping with the entire project.
