Описание: On September 24, 2025, the Union Territory of Ladakh witnessed large-scale protests demanding two key things: full statehood for Ladakh and implementation of the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution for autonomous governance.

The Sixth Schedule currently provides special autonomy to four Northeast states through Autonomous District Councils with powers over land, forests, customs, local administration, and taxation. Protesters demanded similar constitutional protections for Ladakh.

The bandh was marked by hunger strikes, road blockades, and tense clashes with police. Protesters threw stones, set fire to a CRPF vehicle, and vandalized the BJP office. Police responded with tear gas and baton charge. Tragically, four people lost their lives in the violence.

Social activist Sonam Wangchuk, who had been on a 15-day hunger strike leading these demands, ended his fast as tensions escalated. In interview with Rajdeep Sardesai, Sonam highlighted worsening health among hunger strikers and condemned politicization of the protests.
