This slideshow shows how a standard swedish key harp with measure 400 mm is built. The design is Bertil Hallgren's and the model has similarities to the Jonas Spets harp, an old Uppland harp.
Bertil has been my friend and my teacher in key harp building for many years. In this creation we work togheter. Bertil did the precision work and his special parts and I carved keys, sanded and varnished but mostly I took photos.
At the respectable age of 91 Bertil still build key harps in the absolute top class. The harp in this video was sold to Carlifonia USA in 2018.
My tunes you hear in the video I play on my bass key harp. It is the same model that is built here but with the measure 510 mm. The bass key harp is a bit longer and wider and I made some more keys on it. I also play with a different tuning to include the drone with the melody.
