🦅 Red-Tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis):
One of the most widespread hawks in North America.
Known for its distinctive brick-red tail, broad wings, and piercing screech.
Hunts mostly small to medium prey (rodents, reptiles, rabbits), but has been known to challenge birds its own size or bigger, especially if they're weak or isolated.
Excellent eyesight — can spot prey from hundreds of feet in the air.
Often seen soaring or hovering on thermals, scanning below for movement.
🪿 Canada Goose (Branta canadensis):
Large, powerful waterfowl known for their black head and neck with a white chinstrap.
While herbivorous, they’re fiercely protective and can defend against predators, especially during nesting season.
Typically too large and aggressive for most hawks — but a hawk might stalk one if it's injured, young, or separated.
