Supplies
Deer or cow hides.
Rotary cutter or utility knifethey better be sharp.
Cutting mat.
Ruler

SAFETY TIP:
Knives and tools in the leather business are very sharp. Remember to keep your hands out of the path of cutters especially rotary cutters.

Directions:
Carefully cut the hide. No slips-ups here, the mistake is a ruined hide.Lay the hide out and decide if you want to cut natural edge or straight edge.Decide on the length of the fringe wanted then add 2 inches at the top.Lay the ruler across the top of the hide and cut a straight edge, this will be the attachment edge when lacing or sewing the piece to the garment or bag.Determine the width of the fringe desired, place the ruler perpendicular to the top edge keeping the desired fringe width. Press down hard on the ruler making sure the leather cant wiggle when cutting, cut until your about 1 " 1 inches from the top edge. Move the ruler over for the next cut making sure the width of the second fringe will be the same as the first. Repeat as required.If the last piece of fringe is not the correct width simply go back to the last cut and cut all the way through the top edge. That's how long the entire piece will now be.
