After several deadlocked votes for the Portland City Council president, Councilor Jamie Dunphy, District 1, was elected to the role Wednesday afternoon.
The Council president sets the agendas and ultimately what is submitted to the council, helping shape the city’s path. A new president gets elected by the Council each year.
Dunphy was an 11th-hour pick. He was nominated at the tail end of a heated debate that dragged on over the course of three days.
